“Better local strategies around the Baltic Sea and inland areas”
Transnational Seminar for Fisheries Local Action Groups 5-7 May 2020,
Palanga, Lithuania

Dear colleagues,

The FARNET Support Unit is pleased to invite a representative from your FLAG to the next European seminar for Fisheries Local Action Groups. This will be the first of a series of regional (sea-basin) seminars, and it targets all FLAGs around the Baltic sea basin (i.e. from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden) as well as all the inland FLAGs (including inland FLAGs from Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia). A second regional seminar will be organised in November 2020 and will target coastal FLAGs from the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins. It will be followed by a seminar for the Atlantic and North Sea FLAGs in spring 2021.

The May seminar is organised at the initiative of the European Commission with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania and two Lithuanian FLAGs: Šventoji and Western Lithuania.

The seminar will help FLAGs develop better, more focused and more innovative local development strategies (LDS) for the period post-2020 and encourage enhanced exchange and deeper linkages around the Baltic Sea. It will focus on:

  • building capacity of participants to develop high quality strategies to meet challenges, ranging from developing sustainable local food systems and new business opportunities, to tackling environmental issues such as water quality, fish stocks and climate change, and addressing depopulation and how to attract youth to the fisheries sector.
  • enhancing cooperation and strengthening its coherence with the local strategies. This will involve inspiration from successful cooperation projects as well as expert support in turning cooperation ideas into concrete projects. There will also be opportunities for establishing links with relevant non-CLLD initiatives of the Baltic and/or inland areas (Interreg, Horizon 2020 etc.)
